They are usually smaller and more refined than classic varieties, and they tend to produce a quieter sound. These early guitars used paired strings similar to modern 12-string models, but only had 4 to 5 string strings instead of 6 strings, and were more often used as rhythm roles. The two guitar styles are easy to distinguish. The Renaissance guitar has a very simple appearance, while the Baroque style is very gorgeous, usually decorated with ivory and/or wood on most parts of the neck and body.
